WN is Scientific, Race Proven and Rider Approved!
Pros use that which improves their game. If you really want to improve your game, it will serve you well to take the time to read this... A thesis sentence can't do justice given how complex the subject of cycling.
What is the source of your cycling knowledge? Direct experience, observation, reading, or rumor? It is the unseen that makes the dynamic power for cycling. From novice to pro, who doesn't wish to ride faster, climb better, and carve your turns?
For cycling, knowing your physical characteristics is the most important step in analyzing your movements. Only with data about your structure of the bones, joints, and muscles can we then determine appropriate or inappropriate movement for a variety of age groups.
What's in a system, what are the mechanics? Are they statics, based with nonmoving i.e. hang a plumb line, use a angle finder or dynamics, CAD or software associated with the motion? Even then does the software concern the event (road, tt, tri, mtb, track, etc...). These can be broke down into kinematics, the study of time and space motion, and kinetics, the study of the forces acting on a body that influence the movement.
Dynamic analysis performed by our CAD is required because total body or segmental movement takes place. To just sit up on a bike is not good enough!
What's in the approach? Quantitative approach involves describing a movement and body parts in numerical terms. It eliminates subjective description based on data from instrumentation. The numbers can describe the physical situation and not just the eyes or video of the observer. The qualitative approach is based on non-numerical terms (i.e. without measuring or counting all the parts of the performance). It is based on impressions and hypotheses of the analyst's ability to recognize basic features of the skill.
What being used? Qualitative assessment is the predominant method used by bike fitting to assess one's quality of movements. It's all visual observation, Videotape is also visual, it is just a visual record of what you saw before. Tracking the body with markers or video is qualitative rather than quantitative (i.e. skin moves, bones too deep).
Videotapes do enhance the learning process, only when an expert provides feedback by immediate comment, while still fresh. If the specialist's has not the knowledge of the movements, the refinements that are more minute (that make a difference) will not be observed. The human perception (eye) can't see it, therefore very basic.
What are you being sold? To make sense of it, you must incorporate important concepts. There is a big difference in efficient movement and effectiveness, that is determining the most appropriate movements. The degree of work required by the movement "are not as important". Example, a person who cycles a certain distance can perform more efficiently by going half the speed of a more effective rider who arrives at the finish line first.
What is the purpose? Maximized, minimized, optimize? In cycling, it gets hard to understand, as a low correlation exists between efficiency measures and the mechanical effectiveness of pedaling. In most cases, an effective movement is optimally efficient; however, a maximally efficient movement is not necessarily biomechanically effective. This is where communication, fancy talk can have your head spinning rather than your feet moving effectively.
The hardest part of communication is providing meaningful content. WN's goal, therefore, is illustrate and demonstrable truths, rather than subjective ideas. We don't position you so it is just acceptable. We adjust your bike as your body demands and that makes a difference. Just look at all the front-runners, podium finishers and results.
Good wishes are not sufficient we must be actively engaged in the technique. Our solution is not casual. sufficient care is taken to every part of your body. We see an improvement from home user, novice, to the top pros in the world. Why? Better technique makes the watts go up for everyone! We teach you, not just size your bike, perform a basic fit "one fit for all".
WN is actual, as what is opposed to what is said or imagined to be true or possible. WN gives solutions derived from true understanding of each person's actual physical constraints. We can and will improve your cycling experience. Invest and improve your cycling over what is only acceptable, please take time to read...
The definition of "science", (Latin - scientia, from scire 'know') is "to know". The forces that allow you to produce movement are many and their magnitudes are not clear! It's very hard to state what's valid. At WN we strive for those truths. They are elusive but our years of repeated tests and demonstrable results we believe get us closer than any other system.
The forces you utilize for producing movement are many. Yet we have no absolute definition of their limits. The truism that bodies are not all the same, is certainly apropos in the bike-fitting world so using any method that just places you close or hanging a line from your knee is basic at best. "Close , but no Cigar." Another truth is, you can ride your bike without WN but, as the many pros we fit stand on the podium testify, you will not get the ride you could.
The WN CAD and science is used to present scientific information. It provides a clear, concise process of physical examination of the spine and extremities through logical, efficient search for relevant anatomy. The WN procedure has been used successfully, producing the best efforts, by the top ranked racers in the world! Weekend after weekend, month after month, and year after year, WN takes it to the race and obtains the top results. To be your best, one must learn to move through their unique constraints for the type of game they wish to play.
WN has played a leading role with pro athletes since its inception. We sponsor many athletes and we have helped them improve and innovate through years of data gathering both in the lab and on the racecourse. WN has seen international podiums, national podiums, and grass root regional podiums, and in all disciplines. Results demonstrte any programs's worth. Don't you deserve to be your best?
It only takes the smallest change of your body, bike, and playground to change your game! Even with the best equipment available, the intra-individual differences are minute. The advantages verses disadvantages of a given position are very hard to measure, many are not apparent, even using video, 3D led, etc...
WN has a long track record as a leader in R&D, it utilizes and develops high-tech methods for precise measurement obtainable, (online CAD solution, lasers, force plates, Ant. TV, sEMG, Dartfish, compression mapping, wind tunnels and more). What prompts such fanatic attention? Quite simply, cycling motion is so complex that it demands attention to the smallest details.
Studies show that over 90 % of people who ride complain of aches & pains, most attributable to their incorrect bike fit and riding habits. Bad ergonomics while riding a bike can cause both immediate damage & long term harm to your body. The bike is working the rider, rather than the rider working the bike!
Use our blog on the left to read about the science dating back to 2005 and before. Click on Real Results dating back to 2001. We subjected WN to thousands, even tens of thousands, of Alpha & Beta R&D tests to date. Even with all this data, our claims are modest. We will not say anything is absolute, but we know that (compression, shearing, tension) can harm your body. We know as well, that proper utilization of each body's constraints produces power and endurance.
At both the elite and novice levels, incorrect ergonomic interface on the bike can turn discomfort into pain, can even ruin your "labor-of-love. a cursory examination leads one to a conclusion the two groups "elite and novice" would have vastly different needs, but closer inspection leads to the conclusion that many of the issues in techniques, pressures and stress are the same.
